New Delhi: Following the Gujarat High Court’s decision to deny a stay on the conviction of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case related to his ‘Modi surname’ remark, the Congress party has stated that it respects the court’s judgment and intends to seek relief from the Supreme Court.
Addressing the media at the party headquarters, Congress treasurer Pawan Bansal stated, “We respect the court, but we disagree with the judgment as we believe it to be incorrect.”
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh took to Twitter, noting, “We have taken note of the verdict by the single-judge bench of the Gujarat High Court regarding Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification. We are studying the judge’s reasoning, and Dr. Abhishek Singhvi will provide a detailed briefing to the media at 3 pm. This judgment only strengthens our determination to pursue the matter further.”
Indian Youth Congress chief Srinivas BV expressed, “Truth may face obstacles but it cannot be defeated. We have faith in the Supreme Court, as everyone is aware of the reasons behind this conviction. Rahul Gandhi has raised concerns about the Adani Group and Rs 20,000 crore in shell companies. We trust in the Supreme Court.”
Congress leaders made these statements after the Gujarat High Court upheld the Sessions Court’s ruling, denying a stay on Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in the defamation case related to his ‘Modi surname’ remark.
At the Congress headquarters, hundreds of party workers gathered, chanting slogans against the BJP-led central government. Additional security measures were implemented at the Congress headquarters in response to the situation.
