New Delhi, July 27 : Members of Parliament belonging to the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) are set to make a powerful statement in the Parliament during the Monsoon Session by donning black clothes as a form of protest against the situation in Manipur.
The opposition parties, including Congress, have been pressing for a detailed discussion on the Manipur issue and are demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Their protests and sloganeering have led to repeated adjournments in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha since the commencement of the session on July 20. The floor leaders of the opposition parties are scheduled to meet the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, on Thursday to discuss crucial matters.
On Wednesday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accepted the no-confidence motion against the government, which was moved by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on behalf of the I.N.D.I.A alliance. The Speaker inquired about the number of members supporting the motion, and the date and time for the debate on the no-confidence motion remain pending.
The Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi, and Aam Admi Party have issued three-line whips to their MPs, mandating their presence in the House on July 27 and 28. Specific issues, such as the situation in Manipur and the border situation with China, are among the topics for discussion in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.
Additionally, Union Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar will address the latest developments in foreign policy in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, while the Central Government will present the Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the Rajya Sabha to tackle film piracy and revamp age-based film certification. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur will move the bill for consideration and passage.
Apart from these matters, Union Minister Anurag Thakur will also provide a statement regarding the implementation status of recommendations and observations from the 351st Report of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports related to the Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Furthermore, various Standing Committee reports on topics like cyber security, rising incidence of cyber/white-collar crimes, and anti-competitive practices by big-tech companies will be tabled during the session.
