Jammu, September 5: In a significant development, security forces successfully uncovered a hideout used by Jehangir Saroori, the longest-surviving terrorist associated with the banned Hizbul Mujahideen, in the remote areas of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir, according to a statement by a police officer.
The dismantling of the hideout was the result of a well-coordinated operation involving the police, Rashtriya Rifles, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the Paribag area of Bhadat Saroor. Senior Superintendent of Police, Kishtwar, Khalil Poswal, hailed the operation as a “significant breakthrough” in the ongoing efforts against terrorism.
Jehangir Saroori, who had joined militancy in the early 1990s, had been evading security forces and was believed to be hiding in the high-altitude regions of Kishtwar. Notably, his brother, Abdul Karim Butt, was detained under the stringent Public Safety Act on August 3 for his association with terrorism.
During the thorough search operation, the police discovered two blankets, food items, and personal belongings at the hideout, strongly suggesting the recent presence of the wanted terrorist. This discovery underscores the operation’s importance in disrupting unlawful activities in the region.
The entire area has been cordoned off, and ongoing searches are being conducted as part of the mission to ensure the safety and security of citizens. SSP Khalil Poswal urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing the community’s vital role in preserving peace and thwarting the efforts of anti-social elements.
