J&K, Apr 28 : The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the appointment of exclusive Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) for all 90 Assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir. Currently, a Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls is taking place in the UT, with May 6 serving as the deadline for claims and objections. Final electoral rolls are set to be published on May 27. Our correspondent in Jammu reports that officers from the Government of J&K have been appointed as AEROs to support the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) of each Assembly constituency, in accordance with the ECI’s order.
Under this directive, several officials have been named AEROs for the 90 Assembly constituencies, including Block Development Officers (BDOs), Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs), Project Officers, Deputy Registrars, Assistant Regional Transport Officers (ARTOs), Anti-Encroachment Officers, Assistant Directors, District Panchayat Officers, District Social Welfare Officers, and District Mining Officers. The Union Territory of J&K was granted a 90-seat Assembly in the J&K Reorganization Act 2019 following the bifurcation of the former state into the two Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh. Out of these 90 Assembly constituencies, nine have been reserved for Scheduled Tribes, and seven have been reserved for Scheduled Castes.
