Srinagar, June 14: Jammu and Kashmir witnessed significant rainfall, and the meteorological department predicts further precipitation until June 17.
According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar received 11.2mm, Qazigund 1.8mm, Pahalgam 23.4mm, Kupwara 1.4mm, Kokernag 1.3mm, Gulmarg 4.6mm, Jammu traces, Banihal 0.2mm, and Katra 41.6mm in the last 24 hours until 0830 hours today.
The official stated that scattered places may experience brief spells of rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening today.
From June 15-17, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected at scattered places across Jammu and Kashmir. There is a 60% chance of moderate to heavy thundershowers in certain areas of the Jammu region, such as Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, and Samba, during the 15th and 16th.
Farmers and orchard owners should note that the weather is not conducive for spraying orchards for the next 4-5 days.
Temperature-wise, Srinagar recorded a low of 15.2°C, which is 0.9°C above normal for this time of year. Qazigund was 2.1°C above normal at 15.0°C, while Pahalgam was 1.6°C above normal at 9.8°C. Kupwara saw a temperature of 15.2°C, which was 2.6°C above normal. Kokernag remained at 13.8°C (1.7°C above normal), and Gulmarg experienced a low of 7.5°C (1.4°C below normal).
In Jammu, the temperature dipped to 25.9°C (0.2°C above normal), while Banihal recorded 15.1°C (0.2°C above normal), Batote 17.2°C (1.3°C above normal), Katra 18.2°C (3.9°C below normal), Bhaderwah 11.9°C (1.6°C below normal). In Ladakh, Leh saw a low of 7.2°C, and Kargil recorded 12.5°C.
The heavy rainfall and the expected continuation of showers are likely to impact various areas of Jammu and Kashmir, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
