Srinagar, June 26: Parts of Jammu and Kashmir experienced rainfall, offering respite from the prevailing heatwave conditions. The Meteorological Department predicts further precipitation in the coming days.
According to a meteorological department official, the next 24 hours are expected to bring generally cloudy weather with intermittent light to moderate rain throughout Jammu and Kashmir.
On June 27, intermittent rain is forecasted, with some areas in the Jammu region likely to receive moderate to heavy showers in the morning. June 28-29 will bring intermittent light rain, while June 30 is expected to have partly cloudy conditions, with rain likely in the evening.
The official warned that heavy rain could lead to localized flash floods and mudslides, particularly in vulnerable spots within the Jammu region. He also mentioned the potential rise in water levels in rivers and streams, urging caution and vigilance during the active monsoon phase in J&K.
Rainfall measurements over the past 24 hours until 8:30 AM today were as follows: Srinagar 26.8 mm, Qazigund 50.2 mm, Pahalgam 10.7 mm, Kupwara 3.7 mm, Kokernag 20.4 mm, Gulmarg 12.2 mm, Jammu 41.2 mm, Banihal 32.8 mm, Batote 62.2 mm, Katra 30.8 mm, Bhaderwah 10.2 mm, and Kathua 108.8 mm.
Regarding temperatures, Srinagar recorded a low of 17.6°C, which was 0.3°C above normal for this time of year. Qazigund registered a low of 16.6°C, exceeding the normal temperature by 0.9°C. Pahalgam reported a low of 13.8°C, surpassing the normal temperature by 3.1°C. Kupwara settled at 15.4°C, 1.8°C above normal, while Kokernag recorded a low of 16.3°C, which was 1.0°C above normal.
Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort, experienced a low of 11.0°C, slightly above normal. Jammu witnessed a low of 23.2°C, 3.2°C below normal for this time of year. Other regions such as Banihal, Batote, Katra, and Bhaderwah also observed variations in temperatures.
In Ladakh, Leh and Kargil recorded lows of 8.0°C and 18.9°C, respectively.
