Apr 13 : Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Finance Minister, expressed concerns about the global economic outlook and geopolitical environment, despite India’s projected growth rate of over 6% for the year. She made these remarks while attending the Development Committee meeting of the World Bank-IMF Spring Meeting 2023 in Washington D.C. Sitharaman emphasized the importance of the World Bank continuing to work towards its vision of a ‘World Free of Poverty’ and achieving its mission of ‘ending extreme poverty’ and ‘promoting shared prosperity’ in an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable manner. During the meeting, she also suggested bringing global public goods into focus as the third goal. Additionally, Sitharaman highlighted the significance of the “Evolution of the World Bank Group – A Report to Governors” as a historic opportunity to think collectively about the World Bank Group’s evolution.
