Bengaluru, Jul 24 : India is set to launch PSLV-C56 carrying the DS-SAR satellite from Singapore, along with six co-passengers, from the first launchpad of ISRO’s Sriharikota spaceport at 6.30 am on July 30.
The DS-SAR satellite is a joint development project between Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) representing the Government of Singapore and ST Engineering. It will serve the satellite imagery requirements of various government agencies in Singapore, and ST Engineering will utilize it to provide multi-modal and higher responsiveness imagery and geospatial services to commercial customers.
The DS-SAR satellite is equipped with a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payload developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), enabling it to offer all-weather day and night coverage with imaging capabilities at one-meter resolution at full polarimetry.
NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), a central public sector undertaking under the Department of Space, procured the PSLV-C56 to deploy the 360-kg DS-SAR satellite from DSTA & ST Engineering, Singapore, as announced by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Monday.
In addition to the DS-SAR satellite, the PSLV-C56 will carry six co-passenger satellites, including VELOX-AM, an experimental microsatellite for technology demonstration, Atmospheric Coupling and Dynamics Explorer (ARCADE), a test satellite, SCOOB-II, a 3U nanosatellite with a technology demonstrator payload, NuLIoN by NuSpace, an advanced 3U nanosatellite enabling seamless IoT connectivity in urban and remote locations, Galassia-2, a 3U nanosatellite orbiting at low Earth orbit, and ORB-12 STRIDER, a satellite developed under international collaboration, according to ISRO headquartered in Bengaluru.
