SRINAGAR, Apr 22: According to a report by the JK Policy Institute, holding the G20 summit in Jammu and Kashmir would be an adventurous and ambitious step for India and an opportunity to showcase the region’s market prospects, ecotourism ventures, and cultural assets to the world. Despite resistance from Pakistan and China, India announced Srinagar as the venue for the G20 Tourism Working Group meeting from May 22 to 24. It is the first time in 70 years that Jammu and Kashmir would host an international event like the G20. The event offers the region a chance to rise to the occasion and exhibit its potential to the leading global nations. The G20 symposium in Srinagar would represent a formal geopolitical blow for Pakistan, which has maintained its stance on Jammu and Kashmir following the repeal of Articles 370 and 35-A and the division of the former state into two separate Union Territories in 2019. India has issued a significant strategic assertion to the international society, primarily to Beijing and Islamabad by organizing G20 summits in Jammu and Kashmir. The summit in Jammu and Kashmir would convey a message of tranquility and civility to the rest of the world, according to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The Pakistani government has not only objected to New Delhi’s decision but also allegedly asked its allied countries, China, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, to blacklist and stop showing support for the conference. However, as Pakistan is not a member of the G20, it would be challenging for Islamabad to persuade numerous different advanced nations to abandon the idea of holding the summit. India’s decision to hold the summit in Jammu and Kashmir is a significant assertion of its claim to the Indian Himalayas and its intolerance towards forced occupation. The G20 Summit has the potential to have a significant effect on the world and Jammu and Kashmir’s economy. The University of Kashmir is among the 15 institutions chosen in India to host Youth-20 and Civil-20 events in connection with India’s G-20 Presidency. With the G20 summit, Jammu and Kashmir will have a bigger presence on the world platform, and it will be able to empower and shape significant international economic and commercial decisions.
