SRINAGAR: The Indian Army celebrated the 39th anniversary of the Siachen Glacier Operation on Thursday, a military mission that involved the deployment of troops to the highest battlefield in the world. The ceremony took place in Leh, Ladakh, and was attended by senior military officials, veterans, and soldiers who had participated in the operation.
The Siachen Glacier Operation was launched on April 13, 1984, with the aim of securing control of the Siachen Glacier, which is located in the Karakoram range in the Himalayas. The operation was a success, and the Indian Army established its presence on the glacier, which has since been a strategic location for India’s defense.
Over the years, the Indian Army has faced numerous challenges while stationed at Siachen, including extreme weather conditions and high altitude. The army has also been involved in several rescue operations to save the lives of soldiers who were stranded or injured in the harsh terrain.
The commemoration ceremony included a wreath-laying ceremony, a guard of honor, and a display of weapons and equipment used in the Siachen Glacier Operation. The Indian Army paid tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and reaffirmed their commitment to defending the country’s borders in all circumstances.
