New Delhi, Aug 1: The Indian Army has taken a significant step towards uniform standardization by introducing a common regulation for senior officers holding the ranks of Brigadier and above, regardless of their parent cadre and initial appointment, according to Army officials.
This move aims to foster a sense of common identity and reinforce the Indian Army’s character as a fair and equitable organization. The decision was made after thorough discussions during the recently-concluded Army Commanders Conference, and it involved extensive consultations with all stakeholders.
The newly implemented uniform standardization for senior officers of flag rank (Brigadier and above) includes headgear, shoulder rank badges, gorget patches, belts, and shoes, all of which will be common and standardized. Notably, flag-rank officers will no longer wear any lanyard as part of their attire.
This initiative intends to promote and strengthen a sense of common identity and a unified approach to service matters among senior leadership, transcending the boundaries of regiments. Brigadier and above officers have previously commanded units and battalions and are typically assigned to headquarters or establishments where officers from various arms and services work together.
By adopting a standard uniform, the Indian Army aims to create a cohesive and shared identity among senior-ranking officers, reflecting the true ethos of the organization. It is important to note that there will be no changes to the uniform worn by Colonels and officers below that rank, as confirmed by Army officials.
