JAMMU, Apr 28: India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, Anji Khad railway bridge, is close to completion in Jammu and Kashmir. The bridge, which is being constructed by the Northern Railway, spans the Anji Khad river in the Katra-Dharam section and is expected to be completed in May 2021.
The Anji Khad railway bridge is 473 meters long and is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 129 crore. The bridge is a significant engineering feat, as it has been designed to withstand severe earthquakes and high-velocity winds. It will also improve connectivity in the region and facilitate the movement of troops and heavy military equipment.
The cable-stayed design of the bridge is visually striking, with cables that stretch from the towers to support the bridge deck. The bridge will have two railway lines, with a capacity to handle 24 coach trains, and is expected to reduce the travel time between Jammu and Katra.
The completion of the Anji Khad railway bridge is a major milestone in the development of railway infrastructure in the region and will help boost economic growth and tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
