NEW DELHI/LEH, Apr 5: In a tragic incident, an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officer was killed in an accident during a patrol along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. The officer, identified as Assistant Commandant Vinay Prasad, was part of a team patrolling the area when the accident occurred.
According to sources, the accident occurred when the vehicle carrying the patrol team skidded off the road and fell into a gorge. While the rest of the team managed to escape with injuries, Prasad was critically injured and succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital.
The incident has once again brought to the forefront the dangers faced by security personnel in the region, particularly along the LAC. The ITBP, which is responsible for guarding the LAC, has been involved in several face-offs with Chinese troops in recent years, leading to heightened tensions between the two countries.
The ITBP has expressed condolences over Prasad’s death and stated that an inquiry has been launched to ascertain the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, the tragic incident serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by security personnel in the line of duty, particularly in conflict-prone areas like Ladakh.
