Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], October 2 : The Jammu and Kashmir Police orchestrated the ‘Run for Peace’ Kashmir Marathon event as part of its Civic Action Programme, held at the Lake View Police Golf Course along Boulevard Road in Srinagar.
Set for Monday, October 2, the marathon’s route extended from Lake View Park Golf Course (LVPGC) to Duck Park, tracing the picturesque Nishat-Foreshore road.
The event commenced with the flag-off by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) S.J.M Gillani and drew the participation of approximately 3,000 athletes hailing from various regions of Jammu and Kashmir. The race featured a diverse array of participants, including students, locals, and even individuals with disabilities, spanning across 13 different categories.
One participant, Insha Basheer, expressed her appreciation for the initiative, stating, “All of us students are very happy with this J&K Police initiative. We commend this step for the youth, as it promotes physical and mental fitness while also helping to steer them away from drugs.”
The event’s patron was the Director General of Police J&K, Dilbag Singh, while Additional Director General of Police J&K, SJM Gillani, served as the Chairman of the organizing committee.
In preparation for the ‘Kashmir Marathon-2023,’ a ‘Run for Peace’ event hosted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the traffic police in Srinagar issued a traffic advisory. This event attracted a diverse crowd from various walks of life.
To facilitate the smooth progress of participants, the Boulevard Road in Srinagar was temporarily closed for general traffic from 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM on the event day.
A marathon is a long-distance foot race, typically conducted on roads, but it can also be undertaken on trail routes. Participants can choose to run continuously or employ a run/walk strategy, and there are also divisions for wheelchair participants.
