JAMMU, Oct 18 : Following a period of incessant rains in the plains and snowfall in higher altitudes, resulting in wintry conditions, the weather outlook in Jammu and Kashmir is set to improve. The Meteorological Department predicts mainly dry weather and “warmer” days until October 21, offering respite from the recent inclement weather.
In the early hours, foggy conditions were observed in the plains of the Kashmir Valley and other valleys in Jammu and Kashmir, with partly cloudy skies in other regions. As the day progresses, the weather is expected to improve.
A meteorological department official in Jammu mentioned that the weather is anticipated to remain predominantly dry from October 19 to 21, with warmer daytime temperatures. However, from October 22 to 23, the weather is likely to turn generally cloudy, with the possibility of light rain or snowfall in higher elevations at scattered locations in J&K. From October 24 to 28, the weather is forecasted to be partly cloudy. Overall, there are no indications of significant rain or snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh over the next ten days.
This favorable weather outlook is expected to be beneficial for activities such as harvesting and other outdoor pursuits. In recent days, temperatures in the region have seen a significant drop, with Srinagar recording a maximum temperature of 11.6°C, which is 10.1°C below normal for the summer capital.
There have been reports of fresh light snowfall in various areas, including Gulmarg, Sadnatop, Peer ki Gali, Simthan Pass, Gurez, Tulail, Sonamarg, and the Zojila axis on the Srinagar-Leh Highway, primarily in the higher reaches. In Jammu city, the maximum temperature recorded on October 17 was 17.8°C, which was 13.5°C below the normal temperature for the winter capital.
