Jammu, September 2, 2023: Following the successful organization of the Professional Golf Tournament in India (PGTI) last year, the picturesque 18-hole Jammu Tawi Golf Course is gearing up to host over 120 golfers from across the nation for a five-day tournament commencing on October 4. The event is scheduled to conclude on October 8.
Amarjit Singh, Special Secretary of Tourism for the Jammu and Kashmir government, addressed the media during a press conference at the Jammu Tawi Golf Course club on Saturday morning. He expressed pride in hosting the second edition of the PGTI, which will feature the participation of 126 golfers of national and international acclaim.
Singh highlighted that the tournament holds the potential to nurture local and emerging golf talents while contributing to the growth of the tourism sector. He emphasized the privilege for the Jammu Tawi Golf Course (JTGC) to host an internationally recognized tournament, which would position Jammu and Kashmir as a golfing destination. He anticipated that the participating golfers would become ambassadors promoting the region’s normalcy and potential to tourists worldwide.
Vivekananda Rai, Director of Tourism Jammu, reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting golf tourism, considering it a valuable asset in attracting tourists to the region. He also emphasized the role of the golfers in carrying a message of peace and harmony from Jammu and Kashmir to their home regions.
Manav Gupta, Secretary of JTGC, underlined the transformative impact of the event on both professional and emerging golfers in the region. He described JTGC as an international-standard 18-hole course spread across 1400 kanals, endorsed by PGTI for its suitability. He emphasized that the tournament would elevate Jammu as a premier golfing destination, enhanced by the historical heritage and lush flora surrounding the JTGC.
Gupta also revealed plans for pre-events aimed at engaging the local population and encouraging their interest in golf. Sunaina Mehta, Joint Director of Jammu Tourism, disclosed the organization of a ‘Dogri Food Festival’ for the golfers and participants to introduce them to local cuisine, culture, and traditions.
A PGTI representative expressed optimism about the favorable conditions at the international-standard golf course, predicting a positive experience for the golfers.
Officials extended an appeal to the public, especially golf enthusiasts, to participate in the event as enthusiastic spectators.
