New Delhi, September 8: In anticipation of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, scheduled to be held in India from October 5, Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), honored the legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar with the prestigious ‘Golden Ticket.’
This Cricket World Cup will see ten teams competing across ten venues from October 5 to November 19, with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad serving as the venue for the tournament’s opening match and the final. The event comprises 48 matches scheduled to be played over a span of 46 days.
The BCCI shared a photo of Jay Shah presenting the ‘Golden Ticket’ to Sachin Tendulkar as part of the BCCI’s “Golden Ticket for India Icons” initiative.
In their announcement, the BCCI stated, “An iconic moment for cricket and the nation! As part of our ‘Golden Ticket for India Icons’ program, BCCI Honorary Secretary @JayShah presented the golden ticket to Bharat Ratna Shri @sachin_rt. A symbol of cricketing excellence and national pride, Sachin Tendulkar’s journey has inspired generations. Now, he’ll be part of the @ICC @cricketworldcup 2023, witnessing the action LIVE.”
A crucial member of the victorious team in the 2011 World Cup, Sachin Tendulkar is the highest run-scorer in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), amassing 18,426 runs in 463 matches. He also holds the record for the most runs scored in World Cup tournaments, with 2,278 runs in 45 matches, spanning six World Cups. Sachin achieved this feat with an impressive average of 56.95, including six centuries and 15 half-centuries. His highest individual score in the tournament is 152.
Sachin has been honored with the Golden Bat award twice in ICC Cricket World Cups. He received the award in the 1996 World Cup after scoring 523 runs, becoming the first Indian to achieve this feat. He repeated his triumph in 2003, scoring 673 runs in 11 matches for India.
Earlier, Jay Shah had the privilege of presenting the special ‘Golden Ticket’ to the iconic Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Tuesday. The BCCI expressed gratitude to Amitabh Bachchan for his unwavering support for Team India.
