Srinagar, May 16: Despite a slight rise in night temperatures, most places in Jammu and Kashmir continued to experience below-normal readings, according to meteorological officials. The summer capital, Srinagar, recorded a low of 10.7°C, which was 0.7°C below the seasonal average. Qazigund registered a low of 7.4°C, indicating a deviation of 2.8°C from normal. Pahalgam, the renowned tourist destination, reported a low of 3.5°C, 2.4°C below the expected temperature for this time of year.
In the northern region, Kupwara observed a low of 7.2°C, below the seasonal average by 2.9°C. Kokernag recorded a low of 8.4°C, falling 1.6°C below the normal temperature. Gulmarg, the famous skiing resort, experienced a low of 5.8°C, remaining 1.0°C below the expected reading.
Meanwhile, Jammu, the winter capital, observed a low of 23.2°C, which was 0.9°C below the seasonal average. Banihal recorded a low of 10.5°C, Batote registered 14.9°C, Katra experienced 20.1°C, and Bhaderwah observed 9.8°C, all with varying deviations from normal temperatures. In Ladakh’s Leh, the temperature dropped to 0.8°C.
Meteorological officials predict partly cloudy skies with the possibility of rain and thunderstorms at isolated locations over the next 24 hours. Between May 17 and 20, rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to occur in scattered areas. However, there is no forecast for significant rainfall in the region for the next week.
