Srinagar, August 7: On Monday morning, a fresh group of pilgrims set out from the Pantha Chowk base camp in Srinagar for their journey to the Amarnath cave shrine. Along the way, the pilgrims could be heard chanting ‘Bam Bam Bhole’ slogans, expressing their devotion to the holy shrine.
Devi Lal Kumawat, one of the pilgrims, expressed his appreciation for the well-organized arrangements for the yatra, stating, “The arrangements made for the yatra are very good, I have not seen such a facility anywhere, I would like to thank our Army for this. I will come here every year.”
Another pilgrim shared positive sentiments about the administration’s assistance and the cooperative nature of local people. “Administration has helped in every way; local people are also very cooperative. Everyone should come and see Kashmir, we are very happy to be here,” the pilgrim remarked.
The 62-day-long Amarnath Yatra, which commenced on July 1, is scheduled to conclude on August 31, 2023.
Earlier, the Additional Director General of Police of Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh, along with Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, and DIG Rajouri Poonch Range, Haseeb Mughal, conducted a security review meeting with both police and civil administration officials. The purpose of the meeting was to assess the security situation in preparation for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations and the Budda Amarnath Yatra, set to begin on August 17, 2023.
During the meeting, the ADGP Jammu and the Divisional Commissioner were briefed by SSP Poonch Vinay Kumar and DC Poonch Yaseen Mohd Choudhary on security and related matters. Following this, the ADGP Jammu and Divisional Commissioner engaged in discussions with members of the civil society in Poonch, including prominent lawyers and elected representatives. These individuals assured their cooperation for the smooth conduct of Independence Day celebrations and the peaceful execution of the yatra.
