Srinagar, May 19: The police in Kashmir have issued a public advisory cautioning against suspicious international mobile numbers allegedly being used to disseminate false information about the upcoming G20 tourism track meeting in the Valley.
Kashmir is set to host the third G20 Tourism Working Group meeting from May 22-24. In light of this, the police have released an advisory, notifying the general public about certain suspicious international mobile numbers employed to spread misinformation regarding the G20 event, as stated by a spokesperson.
Citizens are urged to exercise caution and refrain from responding to calls originating from the following numbers: +44 75206 93559, +44 74183 43648, +44 75206 93134, +44 74183 43648, or any other ISD or virtual numbers propagating rumors about the event, the spokesperson added.
Several individuals in the Valley have reported receiving recorded messages from these numbers, urging them to boycott the G20 event. In response, Additional Director General of Police (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar has appealed to the public to report any such calls to the police.
Kumar emphasized that these numbers are involved in disseminating anti-national messages and propaganda. The general public is advised to remain vigilant and avoid responding to any suspicious calls, he stated.
The police’s cyber cell has taken cognizance of the matter, and investigations are underway, the spokesperson confirmed. Additionally, individuals are encouraged to reach out to the nearest police station or the Cyber Police Station (Kashmir) for any queries or grievances.
The advisory serves as a precautionary measure to combat the spread of misinformation and ensure the security and smooth conduct of the G20 Summit in Kashmir.
