Srinagar, Aug 2: Security forces successfully thwarted a potential attack ahead of Independence Day (ID) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district when they apprehended two hybrid terrorists associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT). The joint operation conducted by Police, 53 Bn CRPF, and Army 46 RR led to the arrest of the suspects, Faisal Majeed Ganie and Nourul Kamran Ganie, along with the recovery of arms and ammunition.
Acting on specific information about the terrorists’ movement in Baramulla, the security forces set up a checkpoint at Azadgunj old town. The suspects, on their way to Azadgunj Baramulla, attempted to evade the joint checking party but were tactfully apprehended. A search of their belongings resulted in the seizure of 1 pistol, 1 pistol magazine, 4 live Pistol rounds, and 1 Grenade.
Further investigation revealed that both individuals were affiliated with the banned terrorist organization LeT and had acquired the weapons with the intention of carrying out terrorist activities in Baramulla town during the upcoming Independence Day. A case was registered under the Indian Arms Act and the UA (P) Act at Police Station Baramulla, and the investigation is underway.
