Srinagar, July 6: The meteorological department has predicted a “brief spell” of rain and thunderstorms in certain areas of Jammu and Kashmir during the late afternoon or evening on Thursday. According to an official from the department, scattered places can expect light to moderate rain and thunderstorms on July 7. Intermittent light to moderate rain is also expected in many parts of J&K on July 8-9, with the possibility of some areas in the plains of Jammu receiving moderate to heavy rainfall during the morning hours.
As for the minimum temperatures recorded, Srinagar observed a low of 17.8°C, slightly higher than the previous night’s 17.3°C and 0.7°C above the normal for the summer capital. Qazigund, the gateway town of the Kashmir Valley, recorded a low of 16.0°C, which was 0.5°C above the normal. Pahalgam, the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, witnessed a low of 12.8°C, indicating a deviation of 2.0°C above the normal. Kupwara town recorded a low of 15.6°C, marginally higher than the previous night. Kokernag noted a low of 15.6°C, while Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, registered a low of 10.8°C, slightly below the normal temperature. In Jammu, the winter capital, the low temperature was recorded at 24.5°C, lower than the previous night’s 22.8°C.
Other areas also experienced temperature variations. Banihal observed a low of 16.1°C, Batote recorded 17.2°C, Katra noted 22.6°C, and Bhaderwah registered 17.0°C.
