JAMMU, August 7: As the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) and Panchayats approach the end of their five-year term later this year, Mehbooba Mufti, the President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urged party members on Monday to prepare for the upcoming elections.
Addressing a gathering of party workers at the party headquarters in Jammu, Mehbooba emphasized the need for readiness and commitment. She encouraged the workers to participate in the elections without being overly concerned about the outcomes. She stated, “ULB and Panchayat elections are on the horizon, and I urge my fellow workers to ready themselves and engage in the elections with a focus on serving the people in your regions, regardless of the election results.”
Mehbooba claimed that the BJP is apprehensive of her party’s influence, pointing out the detention of PDP leaders and activists on the fourth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5. She noted that similar restrictions were not imposed on other political parties.
Critiquing the BJP’s track record in the Jammu region, Mehbooba questioned their achievements and emphasized that the BJP’s focus on Kashmir has overlooked the needs of Jammu. She highlighted the contrast between the party’s promises and the current situation, asserting that the BJP’s claims of normalcy and development after Article 370’s abrogation are questionable.
Mehbooba further scrutinized the BJP’s actions, accusing the party of using central agencies against its political opponents and harboring corrupt practices. She contrasted her party’s integrity with the alleged financial impropriety of the BJP.
In addition, she critiqued the BJP’s approach to governance, claiming that it emphasizes divisive tactics and targets certain families rather than addressing pressing issues such as unemployment and inflation. She highlighted the contributions of the Gandhi family to democracy and communal harmony.
Mehbooba concluded by stating that her party stands unblemished and undeterred, contrasting it with the BJP’s actions and calling for a thorough investigation into the party’s financial sources.
