SRINAGAR, May 29: The Meteorological Department has forecasted intermittent light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms in Jammu and Kashmir. Presently, the weather is partially to generally cloudy in most areas, with the likelihood of intermittent rain or thunderstorms in the late afternoon or evening. The forecast predicts intermittent light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and the possibility of hailstorms and gusty winds at scattered locations until June 2. However, the MeT office has clarified that no major rainfall is expected. Dry weather is expected from June 3-6. Farmers have been advised to postpone spraying and crop harvesting operations until June 2 due to the inclement weather forecast.
Although Srinagar’s night temperature is normal, the night temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir remain below average. The daytime temperature is also 1-4 degrees Celsius below normal. Srinagar recorded a low of 12.0 degrees Celsius, which is normal for this time of year, while Qazigund recorded a low of 9.6 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees Celsius below normal. Pahalgam recorded a low of 5.1 degrees Celsius, 1.0 degree Celsius below normal, and Kokernag recorded a low of 10.5 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degree Celsius below normal. Kupwara recorded a low of 9.2 degrees Celsius, 1.4 degrees Celsius below normal, and Gulmarg recorded a low of 7.0 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degree Celsius below normal, according to the MeT office.
