JAMMU, Aug 25: The meteorological department issued a cautionary advisory on Friday, urging relevant authorities to maintain vigilance until August 26 due to the potential for landslides and flash floods in susceptible areas of lower catchments, brought about by rain in higher reaches. A spokesperson from the meteorological department noted that the upcoming 24 hours could bring generally cloudy conditions accompanied by sporadic episodes of light to moderate rain in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The spokesperson further indicated that August 26 is likely to witness overcast skies with the chance of intermittent light to moderate rain occurring at dispersed locations. “While heavy rainfall is not in the forecast, it remains advisable for all concerned parties to exercise caution throughout August 25-26. The prospect of rain in higher altitudes could trigger landslides and flash floods in vulnerable areas downstream,” the spokesperson emphasized. Moving forward, the weather is projected to be partially to mostly cloudy from August 27-28.
