New Delhi, Jul 19: The AIIMS-Delhi has decided to cancel the mock NExT exam, which was originally scheduled for July 28. The cancellation comes after the National Medical Commission (NMC) deferred the National Exit Test (NExT) for final year MBBS students of the 2019 batch.
In an official notice, AIIMS stated that the process of refunding registration fees for candidates who had registered for the mock test has been initiated.
The NExT is intended to determine the eligibility of medical graduates to practice modern medicine in India, serving as a licentiate examination. Additionally, it will also be used to assess eligibility and ranking for admission to postgraduate medical education in broad medical specialties, acting as an entrance examination for PG medical courses.
AIIMS had previously invited online applications from final year MBBS students for the mock/practice NExT test on behalf of the National Medical Commission. However, due to communication received from NMC and decisions made by the competent authority, the mock/practice test of NExT, scheduled for July 28, 2023, has been canceled.
The NExT Regulations 2023 outline that the exam will be conducted in two phases, with NExT Step 1 and NExT Step 2 exams being held twice a year. The government had extended the time limit for conducting the NExT exam till September 2024 by invoking provisions of the NMC Act in September of the previous year. According to the NMC Act, the commission is required to conduct the common final-year undergraduate medical examination NExT within three years of the Act coming into force, which occurred in September 2020.
