New Delhi, May 16 : India reported a total of 656 new coronavirus infections, with the number of active cases decreasing to 13,037 from the previous count of 14,493, as per the latest data from the Union Health Ministry. The death toll has risen to 5,31,790, including 12 new deaths, with three cases reconciled by Kerala, according to the 8 am update.
The cumulative COVID-19 case tally stands at 4,49,82,131. Active cases now account for only 0.03 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate remains high at 98.79 percent, the ministry stated. The number of individuals who have recovered from the disease has reached 4,44,37,304, and the case fatality rate stands at 1.18 percent.
The nationwide vaccination drive has made significant progress, with the administration of 220.66 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines recorded on the ministry’s website.
