Ramban , July 11: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been working tirelessly to build an alternate bypass at Chabba Seri to restore traffic on National Highway-44, which was severely affected by heavy rains. Overnight efforts were made to expedite the construction process, while simultaneous work was being carried out to restore the damaged portion of the road.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Ramban, the emergency bypass construction work at Seri, Ramban, is being undertaken by NHAI with the aim of quickly resuming the flow of traffic on the important National Highway-44.
Local resident Mohammed Jahangir, who was traveling through the area, expressed the difficulties faced by people due to the road conditions caused by heavy rainfall. He highlighted the lack of rescue efforts for stranded tourists and urged the administration to either prevent people from using the Ramban stretch or make necessary arrangements for their safe passage.
The adverse weather conditions have also impacted the Amarnath pilgrims, as a langar (community kitchen) set up for them was washed away by the overflowing Chenab River in Ramban on Sunday. The continuous and heavy rainfall in the region led to the rising water levels, resulting in the destruction of temporary establishments for the pilgrims.
Despite the challenges posed by the inclement weather, NHAI continues to work diligently to construct the alternate bypass and restore normalcy on NH-44 in Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir.
