Srinagar, May 11: Despite the forecast of mainly dry weather in the next 24 hours, night temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir remain below normal, except in Gulmarg, according to officials on Thursday. The meteorological department predicts predominantly dry conditions until May 12, with a possibility of rain and thunderstorms at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir from May 13-15.
In Srinagar, the low temperature was recorded at 6.8°C, which is 3.8°C below the normal for the summer capital. Qazigund experienced a low of 6.9°C, indicating a deviation of 2.3°C below normal. Pahalgam, the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, recorded a low of 1.0°C, 4.1°C below the normal temperature.
In Kupwara, the mercury settled at 4.7°C, 4.9°C below the normal for the north Kashmir area. Kokernag witnessed a low of 7.1°C, deviating 2.2°C below normal. However, Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, registered a normal temperature of 5.5°C.
Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 17.4°C, which is 6.1°C below the normal temperature. Other regions in the state, including Banihal, Batote, Katra, and Bhaderwah, also experienced temperatures below normal. Leh in Ladakh recorded a low of minus 0.8°C.
The fluctuations in night temperatures have brought cooler conditions to the region, signaling a departure from the usual summer climate.
