Patna ,May 27 : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar voiced his disapproval of the construction of the new Parliament building by the Centre and stated that it made “no sense” for him to attend the NITI Aayog meeting and the inauguration ceremony of the new building.
In Patna, Kumar expressed his discontent, stating, “What was the need for a new Parliament? The earlier building was a historic one. I have repeatedly said that the people in power will change the history of this country.” The new Parliament building is part of the Central Vista redevelopment project and is set to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister on May 28, 2023.
A significant aspect of the inauguration will be the installation of a historic golden sceptre, known as Sengol, near the Speaker’s seat. The Sengol symbolizes India’s independence, sovereignty, and cultural heritage.
Furthermore, Kumar announced that he would not be attending the NITI Aayog meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated, “There was no sense in attending the NITI Aayog meeting today and the inauguration of the new Parliament building tomorrow.”
Prime Minister Modi, as the chairman of NITI Aayog, will lead the eighth governing council meeting with the theme “Viksit Bharat @2047: Role of Team India” in New Delhi. However, Chief Ministers Pinarayi Vijayan of Kerala and Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan will not attend the meeting, with Gehlot citing health reasons and Vijayan not providing a specific reason for his absence.
Several other Chief Ministers, including Arvind Kejriwal of Delhi, Bhagwant Mann of Punjab, K Chandrashekhar Rao of Telangana, and Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal, are also expected to skip the meeting.
The NITI Aayog meeting will focus on various issues such as health, skill development, women empowerment, and infrastructure development, with the goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
