New Delhi, Apr 27 : India’s first water-based metro, Kochi Water Metro, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and saw a footfall of 6,559 passengers on its first day of service. The commercial operations started at 7 am and closed at 8 pm with the Water Metro operating every 15 minutes in the High Court-Vypin route from both terminals.
This unique project connects Kochi’s islands and initially has eight electric-hybrid boats that will ply on two routes – High Court-Vypin and Vyttila-Kakkanad. The High Court-Vypin route started on Wednesday, and the Vyttila-Kakkanad route will begin from Thursday.
The single-journey ticket fare for the High Court-Vypin route is Rs 20, and for Vyttila-Kakkanad, it is Rs 30. Kochi Water Metro also offers weekly, monthly, and quarterly passes, with discounts available on the purchase of various trip passes as an inaugural offer.
The weekly trip pass offers 12 trips for Rs 180, while the monthly trip pass offers 50 trips for Rs 600, valid for 30 days. The quarterly pass (3 months) costs Rs 1,500 and offers 150 trips within the period of 90 days.
Passengers can also use the ‘Kochi One Card’ for travelling in the Kochi Water Metro, and mobile QR tickets can be booked through the Kochi One app.
