Hiroshima, Japan – Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden expressed their warm greetings as they met in Hiroshima on Saturday, with the two leaders sharing a heartfelt hug. The meeting took place ahead of the Quad summit and as part of the G7 Summit under the Japanese Presidency. PM Modi’s visit to Japan was at the invitation of PM Fumio Kishida, and this meeting serves as a prelude to his upcoming official State visit to the US in June.
Upon arrival in Hiroshima, PM Modi was welcomed by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for the Working Session 6 of the G7 Summit. During their bilateral meeting, the leaders discussed a wide range of issues, focusing on the relations between India and Japan and the shared goals of their respective presidencies in the G20 and G7.
In addition, PM Modi highlighted the importance of representing the concerns and priorities of the Global South, emphasizing the need for concerted efforts in addressing global challenges. The Indian Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, marking their first in-person meeting since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Japan, as the current chair of the G7, hosted the summit where President Biden and other G7 leaders also visited a historic shrine in Hiroshima. PM Modi’s participation in the summit will include addressing key issues such as food security, fertilizer management, and energy security.
The warm embrace between PM Modi and President Biden serves as a symbol of the growing bilateral ties and shared commitment towards addressing global challenges.
