Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted a significant shift in global perception regarding India. He noted that India was once viewed as a nation of over one billion hungry stomachs, but under his government’s leadership, this perception has transformed, and the country is now recognized as a nation of over one billion aspirational minds.
In a recent interview with an Indian news agency, Prime Minister Modi emphasized this evolving perspective. He pointed out that India is not only the world’s most populous country but also boasts the largest youth population, with more than two billion skilled hands and millions of young people. According to excerpts published on his personal website, PM Modi also discussed India’s growing influence as the host of the G20 Presidency.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted that India’s G20 Presidency has instilled confidence in countries often referred to as the “Third World.” These nations are gaining greater confidence in shaping the world’s future, particularly in areas such as climate change and global institutional reforms.
He noted that during India’s G20 Presidency, over one lakh delegates would have visited the country. They have had the opportunity to witness India’s diverse demography, robust democracy, and rich cultural diversity. These visitors have also observed how India’s development efforts have empowered its people over the past decade. PM Modi stressed that the world is increasingly recognizing that many solutions needed on a global scale are already being effectively implemented in India with speed and scale.
Prime Minister Modi also addressed objections raised by Pakistan and China regarding G20 events being held in regions like Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh. He defended the decision, emphasizing that India is a vast and diverse nation, and when hosting G20 meetings, it is natural to hold them in various parts of the country.
The 18th G20 Summit is scheduled to take place in Delhi from September 9 to 10 under India’s presidency. The summit will be attended by heads of state from several countries, including US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
