New Delhi, August 7th – Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted on Monday that certain elements are obstructing India’s path to becoming a developed nation, and citizens are now rallying to demand the departure of detrimental practices such as corruption and appeasement.
Addressing the audience during the commemoration of National Handloom Day at Bharat Mandapam, the Prime Minister emphasized the emergence of a new revolution in the country centered around Swadeshi (indigenous production). He encouraged citizens to further embrace local products during the upcoming festivals, reinforcing the significance of bolstering local industries.
Highlighting the ascent of a “neo-middle class,” Modi underscored the extensive opportunities this group presents for the textile sector.
In a thinly veiled reference to the opposition bloc “I.N.D.I.A,” Modi expressed that the entire nation now unites in demanding that afflictions like corruption, dynasty politics, and appeasement exit from the national scene, echoing the spirit of the historic “Quit India” movement.
Reflecting on the growing adoption of Khadi (handspun cloth) within the nation, Modi reported a remarkable escalation in sales, soaring from approximately Rs 25,000-30,000 crore before 2014 to an impressive Rs 1.30 lakh crore.
“Our endeavor is to elevate India’s handloom and Khadi sector to a global pinnacle,” he affirmed.
Expanding on the administration’s initiatives, Modi highlighted the “One District, One Product” campaign, which promotes distinctive products from various districts, along with the establishment of ‘Ekta Malls’ across the country, akin to the one at the ‘Statue of Unity’ monument in Gujarat.
Furthermore, Modi called upon the textile and fashion industry to expand their horizons significantly, actively contributing to positioning India among the world’s top three economies.
