New Delhi, Jul 27 : In a scathing critique, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of undermining democracy by refraining from speaking in Parliament and opting for political speeches elsewhere. Kharge remarked that the country is witnessing one of its darkest periods in parliamentary history.
Kharge also condemned the central government’s lack of attention towards Manipur, which has been grappling with unrest for the past 85 days. He labeled the government as a “blot on humanity” for its indifference towards the suffering in Manipur.
“The misdeeds of the Modi government cannot be whitewashed by mere name-calling of opposition parties,” Kharge stated emphatically.
The Congress chief also criticized the BJP for preventing him from speaking inside Parliament and mocking opposition members who wore black clothes as a mark of protest over the Manipur issue.
In a tweet in Hindi, Kharge asserted, “For us, black is a symbol of protest and strength, representing justice and dignity. The people of Manipur deserve justice, peace, and respect.”
Kharge accused the BJP of evading responsibility by neglecting the plight of Manipur and adopting a “dictatorial attitude” while diverting attention from the issue.
“This is undoubtedly one of the darkest periods in the history of Parliament,” Kharge proclaimed, emphasizing that people are now awakened and determined to fight against such politics.
Referring to the PM’s absence from Parliament, Kharge questioned the decision to opt for a political speech in Rajasthan instead of addressing the concerns of Manipur.
“The burning of Manipur is a black chapter for the country,” he added, condemning the government’s inaction despite the region’s prolonged distress.
The opposition has been demanding a statement from the Prime Minister and a discussion on the Manipur situation, leading to a standoff in both Houses of Parliament, resulting in no significant legislative business being conducted.
