Jammu, Jul 18: The joint search and cordon operation conducted by the Army and police in the border district of Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, entered its second day on Tuesday as part of ‘Operation Trinetra II’. The mission, launched in Sindarah and Maidana of Surankote tehsil on Monday afternoon, resulted in a fierce gunfight with the concealed terrorists.
According to a defense spokesperson, the operation is still ongoing, with intermittent firing reported from the besieged area at regular intervals. Immediate reinforcements were deployed as soon as the gunfight erupted. To ensure no escape routes for the terrorists, stringent vigilance was maintained throughout the night.
In light of attempts to smuggle armed terrorists, weapons, and narcotics across the border, random searches and surprise vehicle checks have been intensified across Poonch. The security forces’ efforts have already led to success, as they recently foiled a major infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in the Krishna Ghati Sector, killing two terrorists on the intervening night of July 16 and 17.
