New Delhi, June 07 : President Droupadi Murmu highlighted India’s trajectory of transformation as the country rapidly develops new infrastructure to keep up with its rapid growth. During her address to the Indian community in Suriname, she emphasized India’s pursuit of global leadership in the digital economy, new technologies, and climate change action, while also becoming a knowledge society. President Murmu acknowledged India’s resilience and its recognition on the international stage.
Expressing solidarity, she assured Suriname of India’s readiness to share its experiences and support the country in its pursuit of progress and development. President Murmu emphasized the deep connection between India and Suriname, despite the geographical distance, through shared history and heritage. The Indian diaspora in Suriname was praised for its significant contributions to the country’s economic, political, and social development across various sectors.
President Murmu commended the Indo-Surinamese community for their accomplishments and their pivotal role in Suriname’s growth. She emphasized that the Indian community acts as a bridge of friendship and cooperation between the two nations. The president expressed confidence in their continued dedication to strengthening the unique relationship between India and Suriname in their respective fields.
During her visit to Suriname, President Murmu also paid homage to significant landmarks, including the Lalla Rookh Museum, Arya Dewaker Mandir, Vishnu Mandir, the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, and the ‘Gevallen Helden 1902’ monument in Paramaribo. She was honored with Suriname’s highest civilian award, the ‘Grand Order of the Chain of Yellow Star.’
