Apr 14 : President Murmu greets citizens on Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar’s 132nd birth anniversary
President Droupadi Murmu wished fellow citizens on the 132nd birth anniversary of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, the father of the Indian Constitution and a Dalit icon, on Friday. In a tweet, she praised Ambedkar as a symbol of knowledge and prodigy, and highlighted his contributions as an educationist, legal expert, economist, politician, and social reformer.
She also emphasized Ambedkar’s unwavering faith in the rule of law and commitment to social and economic equality, which she called the backbone of India’s democracy. “Let us take a pledge to adopt the ideals and life values of Dr. Ambedkar and keep moving forward for creating an egalitarian and prosperous nation & society,” she added.
Ambedkar, born on April 14, 1891, campaigned against social discrimination and supported the rights of women and workers. He received India’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, posthumously in 1990.
