Imphal, June 30 : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi embarked on a journey to Manipur’s Moirang on Friday to visit relief camps in the town, as confirmed by party officials.
During the day, Gandhi is scheduled to meet intellectuals and representatives of civil society in Imphal, in addition to his visits to relief camps in the state capital. This visit comes after his previous visit to relief camps in Churachandpur, a town severely impacted by the ethnic rioting that has plagued the northeastern state for the past two months.
The trip was not without its share of drama, as local police in Bishnupur halted Gandhi’s convoy of cars, expressing concerns over potential attacks on the carcade. Subsequently, Gandhi made the decision to turn back and reach Churachandpur by helicopter.
Gandhi’s two-day visit to Manipur aims to provide a “healing touch” to the affected local communities.
