Srinagar, June 20: The meteorological department officials have forecasted a surge in night temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir, leading to expectations of hot and humid weather in the region. On Tuesday, minimum temperatures were recorded to be higher than normal at various places.
According to the officials, Srinagar witnessed a low temperature of 18.2°C, marking an increase from the previous night’s 16.9°C. This reading was 2.4°C above the normal range for the summer capital.
Similarly, Qazigund observed a low of 16.2°C, compared to the previous night’s 15.2°C, which was 1.9°C higher than the average for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, the renowned tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, registered a low temperature of 9.1°C, slightly below the previous night’s 9.6°C, but still 0.5°C above the normal range.
In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 14.1°C, surpassing the previous night’s 13.2°C by 1.3°C.
Other regions also experienced variations in night temperatures. Kokernag recorded a low of 15.4°C, Gulmarg observed 10.2°C, Jammu settled at 26.1°C, Banihal registered 17.3°C, Batote stood at 19.2°C, Katra recorded 23.6°C, Bhaderwah settled at 18.2°C, Leh reached 8.0°C, and Kargil stood at 11.9°C.
Looking ahead until June 23, the meteorological department official stated that mainly dry weather is expected, with a possibility of brief showers or thunderstorms in the late afternoon or evening.
The forecast for June 24-26 indicates the likelihood of scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in around 60% of the region.
Overall, J&K is anticipated to experience hot and humid weather over the next four days.
