Jammu, May 16: In anticipation of the upcoming G20 Tourism Working Group meeting in Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital, Srinagar, security forces, including the Army, conducted a comprehensive assessment of the security situation along the crucial 270-km Jammu-Srinagar national highway. Led by a brigadier-level officer, a high-level meeting was held in Ramban, where senior police and CRPF officers discussed and reviewed the security arrangements along the highway, which serves as the vital all-weather road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.
The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps, based in Jammu, shared on Twitter that a tabletop exercise was conducted to enhance coordination and fine-tune responses to potential security scenarios.
Considering intelligence inputs warning of possible terrorist threats prior to or during the G20 meeting, security measures have been significantly strengthened throughout Jammu and Kashmir. The anti-infiltration grid along the borders, as well as the security of essential installations such as railway stations and bus stands, have been bolstered. Additionally, increased checkpoints have been established along highways, major cities, and towns to prevent any terrorist activities.
To ensure robust security, a multi-tier defense consisting of the Army, Border Security Force, police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Village Defense Committees has been activated along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC). Moreover, Jammu railway station’s security has been tightened, with all agencies directed to maintain close coordination and vigilance to thwart any attempts by anti-national elements to disrupt proceedings.
Authorities have also instructed officers from the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force to intensify patrols in sensitive areas of Jammu railway station, including the platforms, to enhance security measures.
