New Delhi, May 15 : Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal aimed a jibe at the BJP on Monday after its defeat in the Karnataka elections, stating that the lesson from the poll outcome was that one cannot rely on selling the same product, repeating lies, or playing the communal card constantly.
In the elections held on May 10, the Congress emerged victorious with 135 out of 224 seats, while the BJP and the Janata Dal (Secular) led by former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda secured 66 and 19 seats respectively.
Taking to Twitter, Sibal remarked, “Lesson from Karnataka outcome: You can’t sell the same product, repeat the same lies, spew venom, vilify the past, align with a corrupt government, and accuse others of corruption, while playing the communal card, all the time!”
Earlier on Sunday, Sibal urged the Congress to win the hearts of the people in Karnataka for the next five years by adopting an open, honest, and non-discriminatory approach.
Sibal, a former Union Minister during UPA 1 and 2, had resigned from the Congress in May last year and was subsequently elected to the Rajya Sabha as an Independent member with the support of the Samajwadi Party. He recently launched a non-electoral platform called ‘Insaaf,’ aimed at combating injustice.
