Jammu, Aug 23: Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh, emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir’s security forces have thwarted 99 percent of infiltration bids from Pakistan this year, highlighting the determined effort to eradicate terrorism rather than simply restrain it. Singh highlighted the robustness of the border security framework, which has been bolstered with new measures to counter any endeavors from Pakistan aimed at smuggling in terrorists, arms, and contraband.
Singh noted the significant number of encounters occurring along the borders in recent times as evidence of the vigilance and efficacy of the security forces in engaging infiltrators at their chosen points and neutralizing them before they can breach Jammu and Kashmir’s borders. Numerous infiltration attempts have been disrupted along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Poonch-Rajouri region, resulting in the elimination of several infiltrators and the seizure of substantial quantities of weaponry, explosives, and narcotics over the past couple of months.
Speaking alongside Additional Director General of Police (Jammu zone) Mukesh Singh at the foundation-laying ceremony of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) headquarters in Sidhra, Singh reaffirmed the commitment to not only curb but completely eliminate terrorism. He highlighted that even though infiltration attempts persist, there isn’t a noticeable upward trend, attributing this to the strengthened border security grid that has deterred 99 percent of such efforts this year.
When addressing the neutralization of a self-styled divisional commander of Hizbul Mujahideen along the LoC in Poonch district on August 7, Singh acknowledged Pakistan’s attempts to rekindle militancy in areas like Rajouri-Poonch.
Singh underlined that their security arrangements are designed to ensnare infiltrators and that the overarching security situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains positive despite ongoing border-based “conspiracies.” He mentioned the continuous interception of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), weapons, and narcotics, which demonstrates the efforts of active terrorist groups and their members.
Singh further discussed the recent timely discovery of an IED in Nagrota near the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, attributing such incidents to cross-border activities by terrorist outfits. He confirmed ongoing investigations into the IED recovery case and assured that the police and related agencies are alert to the threat, consistently thwarting such plots.
Addressing a recent law and order issue in Samba where protesters obstructed the Jammu-Pathankot highway while demanding the removal of the Sarore toll plaza, Singh stressed that citizens should express grievances through proper channels. He highlighted that causing inconvenience to commuters through roadblocks is not permissible and reiterated that the overall situation remains normal.”
