Leh/Jammu, October 12 – In response to the urgent request from residents living along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, the Indian Army successfully conducted a demining operation across three areas in the Leh district, resulting in the eradication of 175 mines, as reported by officials on Thursday.
The operation, executed with precision and promptness by the Fire and Fury Corps, was initiated at the behest of the Phobrang, Yourgo, and Lukung villagers, who expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the military’s swift response in securing their safety by clearing the area and destroying the hazardous munitions.
Deputy Commissioner of Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, conveyed his appreciation for this critical step, emphasizing its significant contribution to enhancing the strong civil-military alliance in Ladakh, ultimately addressing the safety concerns of the local population.
Expressing gratitude, the sarpanch of Phobrang acknowledged the Indian Army’s effort in eliminating mines that had posed a threat since their planting in 1962, remarking on the relief it brought to their community.
