New Delhi, Jun 27: In a series of successful operations conducted in the Kupwara sector of Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have eliminated 11 foreign terrorists and recovered significant quantities of narcotics, weapons, and ammunition. These operations were carried out based on specific intelligence inputs provided by agencies.
The heightened surveillance, prompted by intelligence agencies, enabled security forces to thwart three major infiltration attempts in the Kupwara sector. As a result, 11 foreign terrorists were neutralized, and a substantial cache of narcotics, weapons, and ammunition was seized.
Indian Army and intelligence agencies intensified their surveillance efforts in specific areas of Kupwara after the emergence of new faces in the vicinity of Indian positions along the Line of Control. The activities of these individuals were closely monitored, and when they attempted to infiltrate, alert troops successfully eliminated them.
The first encounter took place in the Machchil sector, where two foreign terrorists were eliminated, and two AK-series rifles, grenades, and ammunition with Pakistani markings were recovered. In the Keran Sector, a second major encounter led to the killing of five terrorists and the seizure of five rifles and sniper rifle ammunition with Pakistani markings.
The recovered items also included surveillance equipment such as night vision goggles and night-enabled binoculars, which could have facilitated terrorists’ movements in the region.
Sources revealed that the latest infiltration attempt, aimed at targeting the Amarnath Yatra preparations, was foiled on June 23 in the Machchil Sector. Additionally, during the encounters, 12 weapons were recovered from four foreign terrorists who were killed.
The recovery of 55 kilograms of high-grade narcotics, valued at around five crores per kilogram in metro cities, indicates the involvement of Pakistan Army and ISI in terrorism-related narcotics smuggling.
Security agencies are conducting further investigations into the recovered items and documents to uncover the connections between the terrorists and their networks in India. This will help determine the intended destination of the drugs they were attempting to bring into the country.
The seizure of 12 weapons suggests that additional arms were intended for other terrorists already present in the Kashmir Valley or those planning to infiltrate in the near future.
In response to Pakistan Army’s attempts to divert attention from internal politics, the Indian Army and security forces have bolstered their deployments in suspected areas, particularly to ensure the safety of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. Enhanced vigilance along the Line of Control has been achieved through the utilization of new high-tech surveillance equipment capable of analyzing any suspicious movements or activities on the Pakistani side.
