Swat [Pakistan], April 25: At least 12 policemen were killed and over 40 people were injured in two explosions at a counterterrorism facility in Kabal, Swat, Pakistan on Monday, according to a report by Geo News. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police, Akhtar Hayat Khan, stated that security officials were on high alert across the province. The Counter Terrorism Department’s DIG, Khalid Sohail, confirmed that the blasts were not a suicide attack, and that the explosion occurred where ammunition and mortar shells were stored. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, strongly condemned the attack and expressed his grief for the loss of lives. Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah also condemned the attack and said that the scourge of terrorism will be uprooted soon. Pakistan has seen a rise in terror attacks, particularly in its border regions with Afghanistan, since the Taliban seized control of the country.
