Srinagar, October 20: In a significant development, the Jammu and Kashmir police have taken action against three highly sought-after drug smugglers, invoking the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act in Baramulla district.
The apprehended individuals, namely Musadiq Afzal Masoodi, also known as Vicky, hailing from Pampore Pulwama, Mohammad Shafi Hajam from Wanigam Bala, and Ghulam Hassan Ganie from Trikanjan Boniyar, have been formally charged under the PIT-NDPS Act following the acquisition of detention orders from the authorized authority, as stated by the police in an official release.
These drug smugglers, who had long been on law enforcement’s radar, now find themselves detained and confined within Central Jail Kot-balwal in Jammu.
The police emphasized that numerous cases had been filed against these individuals due to their active involvement in the illicit drug trade, perpetuating drug abuse by supplying narcotics to local youth in various regions of District Baramulla, including Baramulla, Uri, Pattan Boniyar, and others.
Despite their previous encounters with the law, they continued to engage in the promotion of drug abuse by persistently supplying drugs to local youth, as noted by the authorities.
