Deadly Bus Accident on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway: 10 Killed, Over 55 Injured as Overloaded Katra-Bound Bus Plunges into Gorge
Jammu, May 30 : Tragedy struck on Tuesday morning as a bus carrying 75 passengers from Amritsar to Katra veered off the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and fell into a deep gorge. The accident resulted in the loss of at least ten lives, with approximately 55 others sustaining injuries. Jammu Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chandan Kohli revealed that the bus was overloaded, surpassing the prescribed passenger limit.
Efforts were swiftly undertaken to rescue the victims, with the evacuation and rescue operations conducted by paramilitary teams and the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). The injured individuals were promptly transferred to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic incident and directed the district administration to extend all necessary support to the injured.
In the wake of this devastating accident, an investigation will be launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the overloaded bus and its potential contribution to the incident.
