JAMMU, May 26: The meteorological department has forecasted widespread intermittent light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours. There is also a possibility of hailstorms and gusty winds during this period. According to a meteorological department official, intermittent light rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are expected at a few places between May 27 and 28.
From May 29 to 30, the weather forecast indicates fairly widespread intermittent light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning, with the potential for hailstorms and gusty winds at a few locations. In light of this, the meteorological department has advised farmers to suspend all farming operations during May 29 and 30.
In terms of temperatures, Srinagar experienced a low of 9.4°C compared to the previous night’s 10.8°C, which is 2.6°C below normal for the summer capital. Qazigund, a gateway town in Kashmir, recorded a low of 7.0°C against the previous night’s 8.0°C, indicating a deviation of 3.7°C below normal. Pahalgam, a popular tourist resort in Anantnag district, registered a low of 4.8°C, which is 1.3°C below the usual temperature. Similarly, in Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 9.3°C, 1.3°C below the normal temperature for the northern Kashmir region.
Other regions also experienced temperatures below the average. Kokernag recorded a low of 6.0°C, indicating a deviation of 4.6°C below normal. Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort in Baramulla district, witnessed a low of 2.2°C, which is 4.9°C below the usual temperature. Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 19.4°C, which is 5.5°C below normal. Banihal, Batote, Katra, and Bhaderwah also experienced temperatures below normal. Additionally, Ladakh’s Leh recorded a low of 1.2°C.
The weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir indicate the likelihood of rainfall and below-average temperatures, requiring residents to stay prepared and take necessary precautions.
